NoSQL Leader Couchbase Announces $14 Million Series C Funding

Rapid growth attracts investment led by Ignition Partners as demand for production-proven
NoSQL database solutions accelerates

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – August 10, 2011 – Couchbase, the leading NoSQL database company, today announced it has secured $14 million in a Series C round of financing led by venture capital firm Ignition Partners with participation from the company’s existing investors Accel Partners, Mayfield Fund, and North Bridge Venture Partners. The company has also reserved an additional $1 million for investment from strategic customers and partners. The new funding will be used to further invest in NoSQL product development, support the adoption and growth of Couchbase in enterprise organizations, and support international expansion.

Couchbase Announces Major Improvements to CouchDB

Couchbase, the company formed when CouchOne and Membase merged, has announced several performance improvements to the underlying CouchDB database.

According to their blog they achieved the following performance improvements:

  • Disk write performance gains.  Bulk loading of documents is now two to three times (2x-3x) faster.

Couchbase Releases Beta for Mobile Couchbase for iOS

iPhone and iPad developers now have access to the market’s leading NoSQL database technology, and the only one providing native mobile-to-cloud data synchronization

CouchDB Training World Tour

Couchbase is preparing to hold several training sessions all over the world over the next few weeks. Each training session is 2-days and will cover a myriad of topics. Three courses are being offered at each training session. A complete description of each course is listed below.

BioGPS: A CouchDB Case Study

CouchDB, which is now Couchbase, has posted a CouchDB case study. This specific case study focuses on BioGPS. BioGPS is "an extensible and customizable gene annotation portal that is freely available to the biological research community". According to the case study, gene annotation data has a complex and heterogenous data structure. As a result CouchDB's key-document design was a "natural fit".

CouchOne + Membase = Couchbase

No this is not new math. However, it is true when you take a dash of CouchOne and sprinkle in a little Membase you get Couchbase. CouchOne and Membase have merged together to create "the First Comprehensive, End-to-End NoSQL Database".
