Derek has been in the IT industry for 11 years now as a Java developer. During his time as a developer he has worked with both big and small companies on a diverse set of applications.
Derek became interested in non-relational, or NoSQL, data stores while researching solutions for a personal project. In particular Derek's interest has focused on Apache's Cassandra database.
When Derek is not working he can often be found spending time on the ice as an ice hockey goalie in a couple of local San Diego (yes they have ice rinks there) men's hockey leagues.
